summary

As this project comes to a close, I realize how digital media and social media are crucial to a products success. Prior to beginning blogging I felt that blogs were an interesting form of communication on the internet, however only considered its impact to myself as a consumer, rather than the impact that it has to the person or company providing the blogs. Additionally, through viewing the blogs of other classmates I’ve realized the value of blogging to many different product types. From an iPhone App to a fashion website, there are applications for everything. Beyond the class, I have viewed other blogs such as Hypebeast, which writes about many of the hottest new clothes, shoes, and accessories.

This project has been hugely helpful in my desire to someday launch a business of my own. This experience has provided me with what methods are successful, which are not, how to incorporate databases and other technological elements. I know that any future business venture of mine will utilize blogging methods, and play a large part in the potential success of the business.

This project also opened my eyes to how technology can really add to a website or an “idea” that someone has. Just from thinking of my idea of a fashion trading website, along the way I thought of so many ideas I can incorporate from different lectures in class.

Digital Video

I was really interested in the discussion about digital videos. I think it is very cool that people can upload videos to youtube or facebook by having a built in camera on your phone. We learned in class that the leading company is flash. To transfer a video that you take on a video camera either a usb cord, or a video capture card. Web cams that are built in to computers are not the same as a video camera even though they seem cool it does not allow you the mobility as a video camera. It does not give you the same point of view of using something that you can travel with. It's crazy to think that people make movies by using this technology.

I think the idea of video conferencing is a great for businesses to have. It is basically like a video chat, but on a large TV screen. This could really benefit chain companies or restaurants that could have meetings to better their companies and improve customer satisfaction. This would allow them to share new ideas and talk about anything that needs to be discussed while not just listening to to someone on the phone, but seeing them in person and being able to view idea and documents.

Digital videos really stuck out to me especially to benefit my idea on a blog website to sell clothes and blog about fashion. People could leave videos also explaining whatever they needed to. I also would like to have music software on the website for people to make mix tapes and download and discuss new songs that come out.

Bits and Bytes

This week in class we learned about bits and bytes. There is a difference between a .wav and an .mp3. The .wav requires a lot more bytes for an 8-bit than an mp3 file. A bit which is short for binary digit is the smallest unit of data the computer can process. when eight bits are grouped together they form a byte. this provides enough 0's and 1's to represent 256 individual characters. The characters include numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

We also learned about different types of memory sizes. I had always been curious what all of them were and the meaning and how much it could hold from seeing different ones for phones and for memory cards for cameras. The system unit contains two different types of memory: volatile and nonvolatile memory. RAM is the most common type of volatile memory.

I think it would be cool to some how include something with memory in my idea. Even though this goes more in depth with memory and more the processing system of the computer, it would be beneficial for people if they could upload pictures and documents right onto the site from hard drives or memory sticks instead of having to go through another program.

Hypebeast is a website that has lots of information. It combines fashion, pop-culture, art, music, events and so much more. Anyone can attach a link to this website. The reason i got involved with it was the blogs that people were posting about new Nike SB's. Which are Nike's brand of skateboarding shoes also know as SB. It is fun to go through this site and see all the different things going on from all of those categories. Even learning about new events that are taking place. The reason I like this website is because it blogs, and also shows pictures and is very visual. I find it very boring to just read about information without pictures.

One blog that i found interesting was a new pair of women's sneakers that came out from the designer Marc Jacobs. "A new footwear design from Marc Jacobs sees a release through oki-ni. Taking on slight creeper styling the shoes feature a premium soft suede upper with leather lining in metallic silver and delicate stitch detailing on the midsole. The Italian-made sneakers can be purchase online here, priced at £270.00." I like to read how the describe and it, and see what people have to comment on it. It is also very cool how this website includes twitter and facebook on it.

Operating Systems

This week in class we learned about operating systems. Which was very interesting to me because i didnt know there was different operating systems you could use. The lab we did to go along with this was very interesting. just one more thing I did not know about computers. The operating system manages different hardware and software resources. There are many different ways to create system unit for your computer as we did in the lab.

Learning about linux in class was very interesting and seeing the way it operates. There are so many different ways to operate a computer that it is mind boggling. I was just to used to saving a file the normal way and not going through so many different steps to do so. It is cool how there are different codes to use for different things on linux.

I do not know how this would really play a role in "my idea" learning about all this was so new that I do not know if I would use it for my idea since it does not relate to technology. Even though it does relate to technology its just a website that is used for blogging, sharing and selling. The type of system or computer you are using does not really matter.

The value of inputing information onto the site is important because what writers input is what is useful to the users and the viewers. There would be many different ways you can log onto this site. Any device that has internet access would be able to access this site. This is important as many users will have access to the site, be able to comment, and participate in the conversations occurring.

Recently, it seems that almost everything has an app associated with it. I also was thinking of making an app for the site for iphone, ipad and ipod users. This will be important as I can create my own background and format the site to work well with mobile devices. This is especially crucial as use of the site will be limited if users find it difficult to access it from their mobile devices.

The value of outputting is that the viewer is able to see content that is uploaded to the site by administrators. This can be any screen that the user is using, especially as I have plans for the mobile version. Also if the user desires, they can print different pages they want to look at or save of items they might want to purchase or a blog they really liked. Overall, output is extremely important as without it, input is useless as it never is viewable by the user.

In order to create a lot of the content for my website that would be valuable to readers, it will be important that articles are well written and have a solid basis for the recommendations the articles and blog posts provide. One important characteristic of these articles will be information about pricing. Members of the site that are interested in buying or selling clothing would be extremely interested in how to appropriately price their items to allow for an easy and quick sale at a fair price, or what a fair price is for an item a buyer is interested in. My hope is that the articles and blog posts written will provide objective advice to members.

It will be extremely important to incorporate a database element to the website to track information such as sale prices, auction hits, and many other data elements. This will allow site administrators to recommend pricing for certain items, and comments to facilitate the buyer or seller. One way to do this would be to use a Microsoft Excel program to log data elements. From the data contained in it, it would be possible to find the average price for a dress by a particular designer, or particular day that the site has the most visitors. I believe that data elements such as this will allow site administrators to educate and attract members in a way that other sites cannot.
